The town of Ainsworth has gone through many changes over its history. During the Civil War, several companies were formed from within the town’s population to fight for the Union Army. This continued throughout much of the 19th century as more people moved into the area and established farms and businesses.

In 1900, Ainsworth had become an important shipping center for grain and livestock due to its location on two major railroads which connected it with other towns in Iowa and beyond.
