Albion was first settled in 1833 by pioneers from New York and New England who were attracted to the abundance of fertile land in the area. The town was named after an ancient Roman city, and it has been home to many generations since.
Today Albion is home to Albion College, a private liberal arts college founded in 1835 that offers over 40 degree programs for students from all walks of life. The college campus boasts historic buildings such as Kellogg Center, which was built in 1844 and is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Albion also has several parks within its boundaries including Victory Park, which has baseball diamonds, tennis courts, basketball courts and more; Bohm Woods Nature Preserve, which features over 400 acres of woodlands; and Eddy Park on the banks of the Kalamazoo River.
The city’s downtown area is filled with quaint shops and restaurants that offer visitors a variety of dining experiences ranging from casual cafes to upscale eateries. There are also several art galleries throughout downtown where visitors can view works from local artists as well as renowned national artists.
Throughout the year there are many events held in Albion such as ArtWalk Albion which takes place every spring when local artists open their studios so visitors can view their work; Wine & Music Festival which features live music performances by local bands; Fourth Friday Festivals that feature food vendors, artisans selling their wares; parades during holidays like Christmas and Halloween; and numerous other special events throughout the year.
In addition to its cultural attractions, Albion also has several recreational opportunities such as golf courses at both Marshall Golf Club and Riverside Golf Course; fishing at Rice Lake or Duck Lake; hiking trails at Bohm Woods Nature Preserve; kayaking down the Kalamazoo River or swimming at Victory Park Pool.

History of Albion, Michigan
Albion, Michigan is a small city located in Calhoun County in the south-central region of the state. It was founded in 1835 by settlers from New York and Pennsylvania who were looking for a new home. The city was named after Albion, New York by its first settler, John D. Pierce, who had lived there before coming to Michigan.
The early years of Albion were filled with hard work and determination as the settlers worked to clear the land and build homes. By 1844, the population had grown to over 500 people and businesses had begun to emerge including a blacksmith shop, sawmill, brickyard and woolen mill.
In 1850, Albion was officially incorporated as a village but it wasn’t until 1866 that it achieved city status. During this period of growth, many public buildings were constructed including two churches (Presbyterian and Methodist) as well as an opera house and library. In addition to these buildings, the city also boasted several manufacturing companies such as the Albion Malleable Iron Works which opened in 1870.
Albion continued to grow throughout the late 19th century with new businesses popping up along its main streets such as stores selling clothing, furniture and hardware goods. By 1900 there were over 4500 people living in Albion and several newspapers were being published including The Albion Recorder which is still published today.
In 1901, Albion College was founded at this time by Methodists from New York who wanted to bring higher education opportunities to the area. The college has grown significantly over the years with more than 2200 students currently enrolled from all across America and abroad.
Albion has continued its growth into modern times with new businesses opening up such as restaurants and shops on its main street while preserving its historic architecture dating back hundreds of years ago. Today it is home to nearly 9000 people from all walks of life who take pride in their community’s rich history while embracing its bright future ahead of them.
