DEFINITION OF DEBUT

The French word début came to our language as debut. The term refers to the first participation or performance of a person in a certain activity. In other words: the debut is the first time of carrying out an action.

For example: “The debut of the Uruguayan striker will take place next Tuesday”, “The young Spaniard presented his debut album a year ago”, “Yesterday I had my debut at a corporate meeting of the company”.

The first game played by an athlete or a team in a tournament is called a debut. The debut of the German soccer team in the 2014 World Cup, to cite one case, was against Portugal ; then he played another six games to become champion.

At a sporting level, debut is also known as someone’s first professional match. Cristiano Ronaldo ‘s debut in the First Division came in 2002, playing for Sporting Lisbon.

Thus, for example, it can be said that Lionel Messi’s debut with FC Barcelona was on October 16, 2004 and he did it, when he was 17 years old, in a match that pitted the culé team against Espanyol in the latter’s field, The Lluís Companys of Montjuïc. Finally, the idea of ​​debut can allude to the first sexual relationship that a person has: “My debut was when I was 19 years old with my partner at the time”.

In addition to everything indicated, we cannot ignore either that “Debut” is the title of the first record album of the famous Icelandic singer Björk. It was published in July 1993 and is basically a song of love.

It included songs that “drank” from different musical styles, among which “Human behaviour”, “Venus as a boy”, “Big time sensuality”, “Violently happy” or “Play dead” stood out.

It managed to sell 5,400,000 copies worldwide and was produced by both the artist herself and Nellee Hooper.

In relation to the term that concerns us, we find the so-called Debutantes Ball, which is held every year in Paris and has become one of the most exclusive events. It has its origins in England in the 18th century and basically consists of “presenting in society” young people, between 16 and 22 years old, who are important for their achievements or simply for being the daughters, granddaughters or nieces of someone relevant or well known. A party in which they will have another young companion.
